The Cave of Architecture Students

Living with thesis deadline is consuming all your energy, money, and sanity. But i’m not gonna complain anything about it here. It’s just part of being a fourth semester master degree student. I want to put a good memory of this place in this moment.

I was alone in our lab today (here we call it lab, though in fact it’s more of a station where graduates students do all their works) because stupidly I didn’t know today was a holiday, Hangeul Day. So I decided to take pictures of our desks to remind me someday that I am part of it.

Our lab is titled “Sustainable Architecture” or in Korean 지속가능 건축 [jisokkaneung keonchuk]. In Dongguk Univ. this lab is under the supervision of Prof.Jeon Yeong Il. Our lab is more of research lab, so people won’t see any 3D models (except for the tiny one on my shelf), but will see books after books when coming in here. Our professor has his own library in his room upstairs and his is the largest of other architecture professors’, I guess, because once he appeared on campus newspaper for this thing.

For the last 3 semesters, I’ve been the only girl in this lab. My lab-mates are 5 Koreans and one Chinese, and they are all boys…nice ones thankfully.

This is our cave. Some of the boys live here like 3-4 days a week because their houses are out of Seoul. Well, this room has almost everything they need as a shelter.

The rule of room arrangement in Korea is generally like this: the more senior you are, the more your seat is closer to the window. And my senior has two “closets” where he puts his wardrobes. He also gets one of the beds. Have I said that he’s sort of the fashion guru in our department? I’ve been to other labs, he is the only student with closets. But he’s a straight guy, just to make it clear. His gf is pretty :D, famous CC (campus couple). There used to be many Gundam prototypes on the windowpane…

They let me get that comfy chair this semester because now i’m a senior…yeah, a senior 😀

You can tell the character from how we arrange our table…haha.

When those screens are on (below pic), we see a sexy model in shiny-tan skin wearing super sexy bikini and lying on the sand in a very seducing gesture…Chang Hyo is from China. He’s the youngest among us.

Iron, hair drier…ah I forgot Se Won’s hair iron…we’re just minus fridge and sink 🙂

Seon Hoo is currently not reading anything for he’s busy for job interviews. Chang Hyo and reading? He’s here for fun!

Pretty much different from the undergrads’ studios. Theirs are stuffed with drawings and models. The graduates’ labs which are more of design are also a bit messy with models, but other “more of research” labs are pretty much neat like ours.
